Progress of the world's women

UN Women have published a major report into the progress of the worlds women. In Pursuit of Justice recognises the improvements in women's rights while highlighting the continuing violence, inequality and injustice still experienced by women around the world. Rape Crisis Scotland launch new postcard

The new Rape Crisis Scotland postcard (above) directly addresses the rape myths that make securing rape convictions that much harder. The latest statistics, released by the Scottish government last month, show that only 7% of rapes reported to the police during 2008/9 resulted in a conviction - this figure is an improvement on previous years. End Violence Against Women report

End Violence Against Women (EWAW) have published a report which calls for a coordinated, targeted and long term approach to preventing violence against women and girls. The report, A Different World is Possible
, says that schools and other educational institutions have an instumental part to play in making the the world a safer pace for women and girls. Read the report here
EVAW have also launched a new campaign aimed at men. 'We Are Man' asks men to sign up to a pledge not to condone attitudes or behaviours that 'normalise' violence against women. The vidoe which accompanies the campaign is worth a watch. Watch We Are Man

Tuesday 26th July, Engender Office, 6pm-8pm - Engender will be submitting a shadow report to CEDAW (Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women) and invite members to join us to identify the priority issues we should cover. We'll also be discussing the report submitted by the UK government (see here).
